Global Warming

I'm sure everyone has been told that Global Warming is a huge crisis. It's true. However, if nearly EVERYONE in this world knows about the effects of Global Warming, why doesn't everyone help make a difference? If nearly as many people who know about Global Warming take action, our world would be a far better place.
Have you noticed that this Christmas, we didn't have as much snow as we used to? In fact, it RAINED! Have you noticed that it was far warmer than last year and the year before that? Well, yes, you guessed it....it's all because of global warming. Imagine what the polar bears and the arctic animals are feeling. They NEED the cold to survive. If we keep this up, the polar bears will be extinct sooner or later. Not only the polar bears, but all the arctic animals will die too.
In case you've forgotten the importance of global warming, let me refresh your memory:

-Global warming (also called the greenhouse effect) describes the gradual increase of the air temperature in the earth's lower atmosphere.
-A greenhouse is made entirely of glass. When sunlight strikes the glass, most of it passes through and warms up the plants, soil and air inside the greenhouse. As these objects warm up they give off heat, but these heat waves have a much longer wavelength than the incoming rays from the sun. This longwave radiation cannot easily pass through glass, it is re- radiated into the greenhouse, causing everything in it to heat up.
-Sunlight passes easily through the earth's atmosphere. Once it strikes and warms the earth's surface, longwave radiation is given off and goes back into the atmosphere. Therefore, the planet will get hotter.

If this continues to happen...

-Scientists conclude that the earth could probably be about 1 degree centigrade warmer by 2025 and 3 degrees centigrade warmer by 2100. (Which, in case you're wondering...is A LOT)

-A rapid extinction of species

-Rising sea levels - water expands as it warms and glaciers melt, adding water to the oceans, thus we can expect widespread flooding of coastal areas as sea levels rise.

-Greater frequency and scale of extreme weather conditions, e.g. drought and flood.

-Sea levels are likely to rise 60 mm each decade over the next century.

What can you do??

-Reduce the use of electricity

-use public transit, the bicycle or walk for transportation

-and most importantly: REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE!!

REMEMBER, its not your backyard is warming, its not the park is warming, its GLOBAL warming, as in THE WHOLE WORLD WARMING

I hope you'll keep this in mind, and TAKE ACTION!

The polar bears will be distinct? Ok...but other than that, not bad.

Great post about the environment! We are definitely a overpopulated specie that's not taking care of the environment! BTW, how much is 1 degree centigrade compared to degrees celcius? You also spelled "Remember" wrong, and your picture on the top cannot be displayed and froze my computer!!! Lastly, you copied Oscar's Marquee! Shame! (FYI,it doesn't work after a while...)

which picture froze your computer? cause it didn't freeze mine. I did not COPY oscar's marquee. I found it interesting so i made my own. I took me a while.
